Great white shark
Depth: 200 m · Twilight Zone
The great white shark is a powerful hunter with a keen sense for prey. It can keep its body warmer than the water and so stays fast and strong. With a special sense it detects the faint electric fields of other animals.
For scientists
The great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is regionally endothermic: a wonder-net keeps its muscles, stomach, and brain warm, which makes it a fast hunter. Its teeth sit in several rows and are replaced throughout life. With the ampullae of Lorenzini it senses the heartbeat field of prey; it often attacks from below at high speed.
