The lobster carries two strong claws: a chunky one for crushing and a finer one for gripping. By day it hides in rock crevices, and at night it goes hunting. To grow, it has to keep slipping out of its too-tight shell and grow a new one.

The lobster (Homarus) carries two differently built claws: a heavy crusher claw and a slimmer cutter claw. It grows by molting, slipping out of its old shell and hardening a new one, which leaves it especially vulnerable during that time. Lobsters can live to a great age and keep growing throughout their lives; with fine sensory hairs on their antennae they taste and smell their surroundings.
