Alvin

Alvin is a famous research submarine for three people. In 1986 it dove down to the wreck of the Titanic and took the first close-up pictures. Alvin still brings scientists into the deep sea today.
For scientists
Alvin has been diving since 1964 and has been rebuilt several times; today it reaches about 6,500 m, nearly two thirds of the seafloor. The titanium crew sphere withstands the enormous pressure, while ballast tanks and droppable weights control descent and ascent. With Alvin researchers discovered the first black smokers and their sunless world in 1977.
