Reef Fish
Depth: 30 m · Sunlight Zone
Colorful reef fish dart in schools around the corals. Their bright colors help them recognize each other and hide among the coral.
For scientists
Many reef fish see more colors than we do and use their bright patterns both to recognize their own kind and to hide among the corals. Quite a few can change sex when the group needs it. Cleaner fish run regular stations where larger fish let them nibble off parasites, a trade both live on.
