Sea snake

The sea snake spends its whole life in the sea and has a flat paddle tail for swimming. It must surface to breathe, but can dive for a long time and even take in some oxygen through its skin. Its venom is strong, but it is shy.
For scientists
True sea snakes (Hydrophiinae) are fully adapted to the sea: a flattened paddle tail, a single large lung running back to the tail, and a salt gland under the tongue. Many take in about a fifth of their oxygen through the skin. Their venom is among the strongest, yet they rarely bite people.
