The seahorse swims upright and very slowly. It is one of the very few fish where the fathers carry the babies and give birth.
For scientists
Seahorses belong to the pipefish family, in which the fathers carry a brood pouch: the female deposits the eggs, the male fertilizes them, supplies them with oxygen and gives birth to the young. They have no stomach and must feed almost constantly. They anchor to seagrass with their gripping tail so the current does not sweep them away.
