Sea Turtle
Depth: 300 m · Twilight Zone
Sea turtles swim through the water with their flippers like wings. They live a very long time, often over 80 years, and return to lay their eggs on the same beach where they hatched.
For scientists
Sea turtles find their way back to their home beach using Earth magnetic field, which they read like a map. Whether an egg hatches a female or a male is decided by the temperature in the nest, warmer sand yields more females. They shed excess salt through glands beside their eyes, which looks like tears.
