The snapper is a watchful predator with large eyes and a strong mouth. By day snappers often hang in big groups over the reef and hunt at night. Many species glow pink-red.

Snappers (Lutjanidae) form huge, site-faithful spawning aggregations at the same moon phases and places, which makes them vulnerable to overfishing. They are crepuscular and nocturnal ambush hunters with strong canine teeth. Many species live for several decades.
