The spiny lobster looks like a lobster but has no big claws. Instead it carries two very long, strong antennae that it uses to feel its way and fend off enemies. Some spiny lobsters migrate in long single-file lines across the seafloor, one behind the other.
For scientists
Spiny lobsters (Palinuridae) differ from clawed lobsters in lacking large claws and in their very long, spiny antennae, which they use to feel around and to make rasping defensive sounds (stridulation). Some species travel in long single-file marching lines across the bottom in autumn and navigate using the Earth's magnetic field. They are nocturnal and hide in rock caves by day.
