Tiger shark
Depth: 150 m · Sunlight Zone
As a youngster the tiger shark has dark stripes like a tiger, which fade later. It eats almost anything and is sometimes called the garbage can of the sea. With its keen smell and electric sense it finds prey even in murky water.
For scientists
The tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) has serrated, angled teeth that can crack even turtle shells and clam shells. It is an opportunistic omnivore and travels long distances. The young are born live and fully developed, and a single litter can number several dozen.
